Notes about using review
questions: Although I have questions that cover the whole text, I wouldn’t use
review questions for each section. And, when I do use questions, I never assign
the whole class a worksheet full of questions to answer. They are just to help stimulate discussion and
help students help each to avoid missing important plot details.
Ways to use
discussion/review questions:
- Assign one question to each student to answer
as they read the next day’s reading. Review some/ all the questions the
next day before moving forward by having each student present their
answer.
i.
To get
students looking closely more closely at the text or to go over a section more
thoroughly, you can also have them find and read a passage from the text that
answers their question.
ii.
You can give
all students a sheet with all the questions, even though they aren’t
responsible for answering them all, or just give students their own individual
question.
- Use the questions as a review of chapters already covered. Divide up the questions for the section the class has just read and give students a few moments to find/ answer their questions in class.
